The In-American Dream

This week my family went on an intentional vacation for the first time in years.
It wasn’t a work trip that we extended.
We planned and rented.
We prepped and drove to it.
We set ground rules for the time.
We hit the ground and the rubber slowed down.
We chose to be more mindful this week.
But some small voice inside kept speaking.
“Look around.
“See the American dream.
“Who CHOSE THIS?!”
I couldn’t help but agree.
It was as boring as you could imagine a mediocre existence to be.
Not that their life or work or city was mediocre.
Their mentality was stagnantly status quo.
The zip line path to “complacent human.”
Saw the beauty of slowing down,
While still somehow being frustrated that slowing down meant giving in to this dream that wasn’t my own.
Wanted a bird eye’s view of life.
Wanted to see how a sleepy slow town added to someone’s life.
Living life with ambition for my own life’s sake.
The life of one not my own.
My mind in a life different than the one my body walked in.
Who knew realms were this exchangeable?
Why was I never taught how intertwined they were.
Forget Einstein-Rosen bridges.
I found a Yellow Brick Road.
But what if I don’t wanna meet Oz?
What then?
I guess I repaint it as I go.
Name it the Purple Gravel Path,
Or maybe the Green Dirt Trail.
Try to work and find the Third Cultured Dream.
Maybe the Wizard at the end of the road isn’t a Wizard at all.
Let’s explore and find the Shaman of Wakanda,
The Magician of Atlantis,
The Sorcerer of Egypt,
The Alchemist in Mongolia.
Find the expert who is the underdog.
Listen to the underrated goal speaking to your soul!
Never stop daydreaming of the possibility of your visions.
